DAVID DEFOREST MAPP has worked in the Ontario municipal sector since 2008, and is currently the City of Mississauga’s Policy Consultant, responsible for the development and maintenance of corporate policies. He is an active member of Mississauga’s Employee Equity Advisory Committee, Staff Accessibility Resource Team, and the Corporate Awards Committee. He is currently pursuing a Lean Yellow Belt.
Prior to transitioning to policy work, David implemented and led the City of Brampton’s access to information and privacy programs. He also served as the Access and Privacy Coordinator for the City of Burlington.
David has more than a decade of international and cross-cultural work experience spanning the not-for-profit, educational, corporate and entrepreneurial sectors in both Africa and Asia. In addition to public service, David has worked as a strategic communications and localization consultant, trainer/facilitator and business owner.
David holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Western Ontario and has completed the OASBO/University of Guelph Freedom of Information/Records Information Management Certificate Program and the AMCTO Municipal Administration Program. More recently, he earned the Master Access and Privacy Professional (MAPP) designation.
David was a 2011 DiverseCity Fellow and Chair of the Regional Diversity Roundtable (of Peel) from 2010 to 2012. He has served on a number of community boards and advisory committees, particularly in the context of health care, immigration and inclusion. Current community involvement includes serving on the board of the Wise Elephant Family Health Team and the Town of Erin Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
In his free time, David is a wedding officiant. He has performed approximately 250 wedding ceremonies to date.
