SUMMARY:Wisdom Wednesday Webinar: Roadside Privacy
DESCRIPTION:Many Canadians’ understanding of their roadside privacy rights are shaped by what they’ve seen on American television. But who really knows what information to reveal or withhold at the roadside\, when requested to provide video footage or other information to defence or Crown lawyers\, or when preparing to defend DUI or other moving violations in court? \n\n\n\nGuest Kyla Lee will demystify the proper procedures and the privacy and access implications of roadside traffic stops in this important webinar. \n\n\n\n\nKyla Lee is a Canadian criminal defence lawyer with expertise in privacy rights and police conduct during roadside encounters. Her practice focuses heavily on impaired driving and traffic enforcement\, where questions of search\, seizure\, compelled information\, and the limits of police authority routinely arise. \n\n\n\n\nKyla has spent years analyzing and litigating how police collect personal information at the roadside\, including demands for breath samples\, device searches\, questioning\, and the use of emerging technologies. She regularly challenges unlawful intrusions into privacy\, improper data collection\, and overbroad police practices that exceed statutory and Charter limits. Her work is grounded in a detailed understanding of how roadside investigations actually unfold\, not just how they are supposed to operate on paper. \n\n\n\nIn addition to her courtroom work\, Kyla is a recognized educator and author. She wrote Cross-Examination: The Pinpoint Method and frequently teaches lawyers about Charter rights\, police procedure\, and evidentiary limits in impaired driving cases. Her commentary and advocacy emphasize that roadside stops are one of the most privacy-sensitive points of contact between the public and the state\, and that clear legal boundaries are essential to prevent routine encounters from becoming unlawful intrusions. \n\n\n\nNOTE: An email event confirmation will be sent\, and a separate email that includes the webcast link and all necessary details link will be provided as well.
