Are you a team player with excellent analytical skills? Do you have direct access and privacy experience including the processing of access to information requests under Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act? Service Alberta’s FOIP Services is responsible for the administration of the FOIP Act on behalf of Service Alberta, Agriculture and Forestry, Culture and Tourism, and Seniors and Housing.
Reporting to the Manager, FOIP Services, Information Access and Protection Branch, the Access and Privacy Advisor must be looking to work in a fast-paced office and be experienced, highly motivated and results-oriented
You will work as a member of a team that provides advice and recommendations in relation to the FOIP Act. Your responsibilities will range from responding to FOIP requests on behalf of four ministries, responding to Reviews, Inquiries and Investigations by the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner, formal requests for advice, assisting with collection notifications and Privacy Impact Assessments. Responsibilities will include other related access and privacy opportunities including the delivery of FOIP awareness sessions to program areas within Service Alberta and our four client ministries.
Your expertise in access and privacy legislation will ensure your success in providing sound advice to clients on the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information. Your success in this position is built on a strong knowledge of the FOIP Act. Strong verbal and written communication skills and well developed organizational and time management skills are required in order to work independently and in a team setting.
Strong consultation, problem-solving skills and ability to work strategically will serve you well when working with citizens, government staff and community stakeholders to manage a wide variety of access and privacy related issues.
Service Alberta’s FOIP Services is also responsible for Alberta’s corporate access and privacy legislation impacting private sector organizations, government and local public bodies. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with the Corporate FOIP Services team in supporting cross-department initiatives, resource development, and more.
University degree in a related field plus four years of experience in an access and privacy environment is required. Experience in administering and processing requests under the FOIP Act is required. Graduate of the Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) certificate program from the University of Alberta is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered.
