Under the direction of the University Access and Privacy Advisor, the successful applicant will undertake day-to-day functions and tasks of the IAP Office. Duties include managing requests to the University under the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015; working collaboratively with all units of the University to conduct privacy impact assessments; participating in developing, implementing and monitoring third party data sharing agreements; and investigating privacy complaints and privacy breaches. The position provides advice and assistance to the University on compliance with the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015, other relevant legislation and University policies and coordinating and assisting in delivery of access and privacy training. As well, the role will be responsible to conduct policy and other research and analysis relevant to access and privacy; maintain expertise in information access and privacy protection legislation and regulations, best practices and evolving privacy issues; and perform other related duties as required.
Experience (3-5 years) in public administration and information access and privacy protection in a university, governmental or other large organization environment; graduation with an undergraduate degree in the social sciences or Business; or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training. A working knowledge of access and privacy legislation, such as the ATIPPA is required, as well as experience conducting investigations in response to privacy complaints or privacy breaches. Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training is desirable. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, and understands the unique nature and environment of higher education. The successful candidate will demonstrate judgment and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters and is able to coach and familiarize others in ATIPPA matters. The position requires considerable organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities and demonstrated, superior attention to detail. The successful applicant honors commitments by tracking projects and meeting timelines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and report-writing are necessary. Knowledge of and experience in IT security and information management are desirable. A recognized professional privacy certificate would be considered a definite asset.
