BLG provides its clients with strategic and legal advice in matters of privacy and data protection through its Cybersecurity, Privacy and Data Protection Focus Group. Supervised by Éloïse Gratton and Elisa Henry, that practice group is a recognized leader in this field of law nationally, as well as being the largest of its kind in Québec.
Our Montréal office is looking for an associate with an interest in working in this exciting field of law who wishes to join this Group, focused primarily on serving large Canadian and international corporations. The position will be of interest to a candidate seeking to work in the specialized advisory practice of privacy protection. The nature of the team’s work involves federal and provincial law in Canada, as well as European and California law.
The ideal candidate will have from 3 to 8 years of relevant experience, primarily with legal, operational and ethical issues relating to privacy and data protection, cybersecurity, information technology, e-commerce, social media, online advertising and anti-spam legislation. The retained candidate will provide clients with strategic advice regarding the compliance of their activities with the applicable legislative framework, especially in rolling out new products and services. He or she will also assist clients in managing security breach incidents. A self-starter with a creative spirit, sound business sense and a keen interest in new technologies, the retained candidate will have good communication, drafting and interpersonal skills and will speak French and/or English fluently. A graduate degree and/or membership in a European or American bar association would be an asset. The candidate must be a member of the Barreau du Québec or of another Canadian bar association or law society.
