It is within this context that Canadian Blood Services is seeking an Associate Director, Privacy (Associate Director) to join the Legal division. Reporting to the Managing Counsel, Health Law, Ethics and Privacy, the Associate Director will lead the continual evolution of a strategic and comprehensive privacy program that defines, maintains, and implements policies and processes that enable consistent and effective privacy practices which minimize risk and ensure the confidentiality of personal information. They will also lead and manage programs related to the access of corporate records. The Associate Director will interface with all levels of Canadian Blood Services leadership to develop strategic plans for the collection, use and sharing of information in a manner that maximises its value while complying with applicable Canadian and global privacy laws. Finally, the Associate Director will develop privacy training materials to increase employee understanding of Canadian Blood Services privacy policies, practices, and procedures.
This role is highly visible across the organization, carries a high degree of accountability, and requires a strong combination of program management skills and leadership acumen. As an ideal candidate you bring a post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution. You will have 10 or more years of professional experience in the privacy field alongside five years of progressive management experience. You also have specialized training in privacy and access to information concepts and will ideally possess an industry recognized privacy certification. You are adept at proactively identifying privacy risks and providing practical mitigation strategies and your ability to think strategically and assist in developing pragmatic solutions and approaches is well developed. You are motivated, self-managed and you can balance a multitude of priorities and customer needs. Finally, you are highly collaborative, and customer focused, and this allows you to influence at all levels of an organization.
