Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking an experienced, driven and innovative individual for the role of Director of Freedom of Information and Protection (FOIP) and Privacy Business Partnerships (PBP) within the Information & Privacy department. You will play a critical role in leading a high functioning team as this interesting and complex area continues to evolve. A part of AHS’ Legal & Privacy team, the Information & Privacy team promotes the protection of privacy and access to information throughout AHS, enabling AHS staff to apply privacy principles in their daily work to ensure that our patient’s personal and health information is protected.
Reporting to the Chief Privacy Officer and a part of Information & Privacy’s Leadership team, the Director, FOIP and Privacy Business Advisory leads the team responsible for compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as our Privacy Business Partnerships (PBP) function at AHS. The PBP function includes a team responsible for providing the privacy advisory service, privacy education and training to AHS. You are a collaborative and customer focused individual as Information & Privacy works closely with internal and external stakeholders. You will work closely with the legal team to consider legislative reforms and statutory interpretations, contractual obligations, litigation and other matters. Other key internal stakeholder groups include Information Risk Management, Health Information Management, Research & Innovation, Data Analytics, Human Resources, Communications, and many more. You have strong leadership skills, with the ability to have line of sight to both the department and AHS’ overall goals. It is essential that you be able to establish and adjust priorities in accordance with competing demands and complex issues, as well as be able to achieve results by managing outcomes using a variety of service delivery methods and resources. AHS is subject to legislation relating to the protection of privacy and the public’s right to access to information. This includes compliance with the Health Information Act (HIA) and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP). The Information & Privacy Leadership team oversee the response to the public’s FOIP requests and also supports the organization in developing Privacy Impact reviews of AHS’s health and Personal information systems and programs.
