The University of Toronto (UofT) seeks a deeply analytical and strategic leader for the position of Director, Institutional Research and Data Governance (IRDG). Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Planning & Budget, the Director works closely with the university’s senior administration—across its three campuses—to develop and maintain a coordinated approach to data-driven decision making.The Director serves as an adviser and consultant to senior management on policy decisions and strategic direction, particularly on questions of institutional performance measurement, international rankings submissions, and management of administrative data assets. Additionally, the Director will advise on a business intelligence roadmap to leverage data assets, facilitate the development of analytical capacity across the institution, and foster inter-divisional collaboration on data projects. The Director, Institutional Research and Data Governance is a vital member of the university’s management team and has primary responsibility for developing and implementing the University’s data governance framework.
The ideal candidate is an astute, big-picture thinker—someone with demonstrated experience in the area of institutional analysis and research as well as enterprise-wide data governance. The person who will realize success in the role has or will develop a sophisticated understanding of the post-secondary environment in the province of Ontario, and will be a reliable and strategic resource to colleagues across the University’s tri-campus system. As faculty, staff, and students of UofT work hard to maintain the institution’s highly collegial and inclusive environment, the Director must genuinely exhibit values of collaboration, inclusivity, and respect—in all their forms—be highly ethical in all aspects in their work and activities, and have a track record of working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders. A graduate degree is desirable, particularly in a quantitative discipline (e.g. mathematics, statistics, and economics, etc.), though the equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered.
