The FOIP and Records Management Unit of the Business Services Branch is looking for permanent and temporary FOIP Advisors to join our branch. The Unit administers the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Solicitor General.
As a FOIP Advisor in a fast-paced office, you will assist applicants in accessing information held by the Ministry within legislated timelines by reviewing records; preparing fee estimates; liaising with third parties and other public bodies; and making recommendations on the disclosure of information while identifying sensitivities and issues surrounding controversial requests.
You will liaise, mediate and prepare inquiry submissions to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner on access and privacy-related matters. As well, you will provide training and advice/assistance to Ministry staff to ensure compliance with the access and privacy provisions of the FOIP Act. You will review and advise on policies, legislation and new initiatives of the Ministry in respect to access and privacy implications.
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills complemented by an exceptional ability to critically analyze information in order to accurately interpret policies, regulations and legislation. Solid research and writing skills are also required to condense complex information into succinct, easily understood documents.
University Degree in a related field (such as Business Administration or Social Sciences) plus a minimum 4 years’ progressively responsible related experience working with FOIP legislation in an access and privacy environment is required. Enrollment or Completion of the Information Access and Protection of Privacy (IAPP) Certificate program as well as experience in policy development, governmental research or project planning would be considered assets.
Equivalencies will be considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.
There are two Permanent Full Time positions and one Temporary 18 month Full Time position available.
