Based in Markham (Ontario), the LEGAL COUNSEL (PRIVACY AND COMPLIANCE) reports directly to Philips Canada’s General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Compliance Officer. Working closely with Philips’ Canadian and global legal, contracts, compliance and privacy groups, you will provide legal and compliance support services to all of Philips Canada’s staff and businesses.
Your responsibilities will include:
Develop, implement and train employees on policies, procedures and templates to ensure compliance with Philips Privacy Rules, our General Business Principles and other applicable laws.
Chair and Secretary of Philips Canada’s French Language Compliance Committee.
Review, draft and negotiate privacy related contracts and agreements including data protection and data sharing agreements.
Perform compliance investigations, reports, training and communications.
Provide legal assistance to Philips Canada’s regulatory group with respect to product safety reports, recalls, etc.
Review terms of commercial agreements and business arrangements to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Review of Philips Canada marketing, advertising and product packaging (in both French and English) to ensure compliance with Philips policies and applicable laws.
Provide legal compliance support for Philips Canada healthcare research projects.
Assist the General Counsel with litigation management, human resources matters, M&A activities, corporate filings and other legal and regulatory matters.
You possess the following education, skills and experience:
Canadian LL.B. law degree (Civil Law and Privacy certification beneficial)
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a legal or compliance related role.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience in Canadian privacy law.
Excellent bilingual (French/English) written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize effectively, handle competing demands and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational and inter-personal skills.
