About Our Opportunity
As the Manager, Information Access and Privacy, you build and oversee a strategic and comprehensive corporate Access to Information or Privacy Program that defines, develops, maintains and implements a framework of policies, best practices, processes, and corporate training programs. The objective is to enable consistent and effective practices across government, facilitate access to government-held information by the public, to instill public confidence and ensure the protection and appropriate use of the personal information of Nova Scotians, in compliance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIPOP) Act, Personal Information International Disclosure Protection (PIIDPA) Act, Privacy Review Officer Act and other relevant legislation. You will develop and maintain a professional team with expertise in subject matter, with a focus on excellence in client service in support of openness and transparency.
You will possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as business or information management) combined with management or supervisory experience. An acceptable equivalent combination of education, training and experience will also be considered.
You will have in-depth knowledge of access and privacy legislation both at the interpretation and operational levels. As well as an extensive background in policy and/or program development and a good understanding of the current legislation environment. You have considerable leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external parties. You must be able to think conceptually and broadly and possess well-developed, analytical, synthesis and communication skills to convey policy positions and provide advice on emerging issues to senior officials, departmental staff and the team.
You must have good judgment, be able to make decisions strategically, have a sense of urgency, and demonstrated commitment to a high ethical standard. You’re a forward thinker that keeps abreast of development in the access to information discipline and embraces “access by default” practices.
