The opportunity

Group Benefits is looking for a self-motivated individual to own the ongoing evolution of our privacy expertise. This opportunity will require a broad range of skillsets to evaluate and maintain outstanding privacy principles within business functions and with external partners. The successful individual will change the organization to align with new government regulation while coaching our GB Executive team and partners on the application of privacy principles.

Your accountabilities:

You will have a broad range of responsibilities that tie to the same objective: Help GB to fulfill its key business strategies while following internal and external data privacy requirements. This will include:

  • Quickly gaining an in-depth understanding of business strategies with a view to identifying and handling related privacy impacts
  • Coordinating GB’s ongoing compliance with applicable internal and external data privacy requirements.
  • Completing vendor privacy risk assessments
  • Evolving practices to privacy, data protection and cybersecurity legislative changes and regulatory reform impacting Manulife’s Canadian business and operations and communicating those changes to partners.
  • Proactively identifying privacy issues and risks, seeking out business-appropriate solutions and coordinating the development of appropriate controls with management
  • Assessing and reporting on business privacy compliance, including to Canadian Privacy
  • Being responsible for the design and delivery of privacy training plans and programs for compliance teams and Canadian employees in general.
  • Assisting in the identification and management of privacy risks
  • Promoting the adoption and appropriate use of privacy risk management software
  • Assessing the privacy practices of third parties who handle Manulife information
  • Supporting responses to privacy-related requests received from Plan Sponsors (e.g., RFP; privacy risk assessments; audits)
  • Ensuring creation and maintenance of personal data inventories
  • Coordinating GB privacy incident management practices, in collaboration with Compliance. (Canadian Privacy will continue to play primary role on advanced privacy incidents, but will work closely with the GB Data Privacy Lead on any raised privacy incidents that impact GB)
  • Leading special projects as required.
