The Senior Privacy Specialist leads the development and implementation of privacy and security related policies, procedures, and safeguard measures affecting all employees and contractors of the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) who use or manage personal health information (PHI) in an electronic format, and all employees and contractors of the Health and Social Services Authorities (HSSAs) who use territory-wide health information systems. The policies, procedures and safeguard measures developed by the Senior Privacy Specialist also establish core principles, objectives and best practices that must be adhered to by private health care providers, such as pharmacists and private physicians, throughout the NWT. The position will play a leading role in the development of a Health Privacy Framework for the NWT and is expected to have significant influence on the promotion of a culture of health privacy within the NWT health system in the future. The strategic advice provided by the incumbent is critical to the NWT health system practicing balanced information sharing that will result in better patient care.
Typically, the qualifications for this position would be attained by a Bachelor’s degree in public administration, information management, business or a related discipline with five (5) years of directly related experience working in the field of health privacy.
