Experience and Qualifications:
•Directs all functions, processes and activities related to health records, decision support, patient registration, central scheduling and switchboard.
•Promotes the privacy, security and confidentiality of personal health information across the organization.
•Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the patient health record.
•Provides leadership for the transition to electronic health records.
•Timely reporting and data quality of clinical datasets set out by the Ministry of Health.
•Strategically plan for health care data and information needs.
•Manage and improve the quality of clinical and business operations.
•Acts as the Privacy Officer and oversees all activities related to implementation and maintenance of the hospital’s privacy and confidentiality policy and procedures, while adhering to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
•Assists administration with requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
•Baccalaureate degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration or Health Informatics, or equivalent education/experience.
•Health Information Management Professional certification preferred.
•Minimum of three years’ relevant managerial, business or supervisory experience.
•Practical understanding of: Coding, Abstracting, Auditing, Risk Management, Utilization Management, Systems and Legal Procedures.
•Knowledge of privacy and related legislation.
•Demonstrated leadership and change management skills.
•Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•Demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
•Superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate objectively and effectively with outside agencies, patients, the public, physicians and staff at all levels.
