In any organization, privacy of personal information is fundamental. A given. A no-brainer… At least, it ought to be.
At the Privacy and Access Council of Canada, it is fundamental. After all, privacy of personal information and respect for confidential information are essential elements of what the Council and its members are all about.
Our commitment to your privacy is demonstrated in our website information practices, including what type of information is gathered, how the information is used, and with whom the information is shared.
This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices for the PACC website at www.PACC.ca and reflects the high regard we place upon data protection across the organization.
Personal information is optional. You can visit the PACC website to learn more about PACC and the services we offer or simply to gather information, and you can do that without disclosing your personal information.
If you choose to provide us with information about yourself, we will act in a responsible manner.
We neither sell, disclose, nor accept a fee from advertisers or others in exchange for granting access to personal information except as describe in this Commitment (although we might charge a reasonable fee to offset the cost of responding to access requests). We may disclose personal information as allowed or required by law, including making disclosures that are necessary or advisable to protect the rights, safety or property of PACC or others and to comply with legal or regulatory requirements. And we will disclose information about certification status, including to employers.
The use of AAPP, CAPP and MAPP designations is governed by the PACC Professional Certification program and is closely controlled; and we will identify individuals whose certification is invalid or who falsely claim the designation, including to employers and prospective employers.
Basic functioning of our website requires that certain cookies be set in your browser. Beyond that, though, we collect surprisingly little information about visits to our website.
To find out if PACC has any personal information about you, or if you feel information about you has been misused, mishandled, or inaccurately gathered, email or write to the President at the location noted on the Council’s Contact webpage. We might require proof of your identity before providing a copy of personal data which we have about you. You may challenge the accuracy of the data that we have about you, and you may request the information be erased, changed, or completed. We may refuse to provide a copy of your personal data, and will give reasons for such a refusal; but you may challenge our decision to refuse to provide you with a copy of your personal information.
Confidentiality & Security
PACC has implemented people, process, and technology measures intended to protect personal data that we have while it is under our control. Our dealings with third parties are governed by appropriate contracts and agreements, but we have no way of controlling the actions or failures of others, whether or not that affects you or information about you.
PACC personnel who have access to personal and member data are obliged to comply with the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and to respect the confidentiality of our visitors’ personal data.
Children’s data
The PACC website is not directed towards children, and we have no intention of collecting information from children. We do not take steps to identify whether website visitors are children or adults, and we don’t take specific steps to protect the privacy of children who might disclose their personal data to us; nevertheless, we are committed to complying with applicable laws and requirements.
Linking
The PACC website contains links to other websites, and those links are provided as a convenience. PACC has no control over those sites, and doesn’t make representations about what’s on those websites. PACC also isn’t responsible for setting or enforcing the privacy practices, terms, or content of those websites. PACC can’t guarantee the accuracy, integrity, or quality of any information or content that is available on or through those sites, and PACC does not endorse those websites, their providers, or anything available on or through them.
