Consultation: Children’s Online Privacy Code

02/Apr/2026 Leave a Comment

A draft Children’s Online Privacy Code is being developed, and the OAIC is seeking the public’s input.

The Code is intended to protect children of any age when they use online services by “strengthening the privacy protections of their personal information.” While the Code is not legislation, it does apply to social media, including the platforms affected by the recent age-restriction law.

Children and their parents are invited to complete and submit the relevant age-related workbook:

  • Drawing workbook (recommended for younger children, aged 0-8) (PDF, 1771 KB)
  • Children aged 8-12 (recommended primary school aged children, Years 3-6) (PDF, 4964 KB)
  • Young people aged 13-18 (recommended secondary school aged children, Years 7-12) (PDF, 4389 KB)

Industry, civil society, and academia and any other interested parties are invited to respond to the Children’s Online Privacy Code, in particular on any unintended consequences of this legislative instrument or issues relating to the drafting.

  • Exposure Draft of Children’s Online Privacy Code, and
  • Explanatory Statement

Stakeholders are encouraged to read both the Exposure Draft and the Explanatory Statement, and to submit written responses to the draft Code via email co**@******ov.au

Submission close on COB Friday 5 June 2026
