In 2005, the United Nations established the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) to provide a forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue concerning public policy issues relating to the internet, involving such stakeholders as governments, the private sector, the technical and academic communities, and members of civil society.
The annual IGF meeting brings together stakeholders from across the globe, and strengthens the participation of parliamentarians in discussions on some of the most pressing issues related to the use, evolution and governance of the Internet and related digital technologies.
The 18th annual meeting of the Internet Governance Forum will be hosted by the Government of Japan in Kyoto from 8 to 12 October 2023. It marks the first time the IGF is hosted by Japan, and the first time the Privacy & Access Council of Canada will participate in the discussions.
