Privacy Matters to Immigrants and Refugees

Imagine fleeing to Canada from one of the many countries that punishes homosexuality with death. You’ve never been able to reveal your true self — and now being allowed to stay in Canada depends on getting proof from people back home. 

But if encrypted communications about your sexuality are routinely scrutinized as platforms look for hurtful content, then every email and photo you exchange with family or friends back home could put their lives in jeopardy.
