The voice for privacy and access

Covid App Closure

21/Jun/2022

The AB TraceTogether app will be decommissioned on June 23, 2022.

Temporary User IDs that have been exchanged via Bluetooth with other phones running the App are stored locally on users’ phones and cleared after 21 days.

Alberta Health’s Information Management Branch has confirmed that “information that has been collected from the App by Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services for contact tracing and public health surveillance purposes will be maintained for 18 months and will then be securely disposed of.”

Eliminating the app is a two-step process:

1) Delete the app to stop tracing functionality

Deleting the app will result in logs no longer being collected by your device and all data associated with or generated by contact with your app will automatically be deleted from all mobile devices after 21 days.

2) Email hiahelpdesk@gov.ab.ca to remove your phone number

To have your phone number removed from the registration system you must email hiahelpdesk@gov.ab.ca with the mobile number you registered in the app. We will then delete your mobile number from our server. This renders meaningless all data that your phone has exchanged with other phones, because that data will no longer be associated with you.
