Help shape Ontario’s Digital ID Program

02/Feb/2021

The Ontario government is seeking input on its plan to introduce a digital ID program by the end of 2021 that would enable Ontarians to conveniently prove their identity online.

Individuals could use digital ID to prove their identity when:

  • checking in for virtual medical appointments
  • getting a birth, marriage or death certificate
  • applying for government assistance (such as disability support) or benefits (such as CERB or EI)
  • updating and showing vaccination records
  • opening a bank account
  • applying for a tenancy or job

Businesses could use digital ID to verify individuals’ identities when:

  • hiring new employees or engaging contractors
  • proving their identity/credentials or verifying those of other businesses
  • opening business accounts
  • applying for loans, grants, tax credits or benefits
  • verifying a prospective tenant’s or customer’s identity

Have Your Say

This is a rare opportunity for you to offer perspective on the design and implementation of Ontario’s digital identification program.

We recognize that employment or other associations can affect your willingness and freedom to express your views.

If you wish to provide input but are concerned about splashback, send your thoughtful comments about the proposed program by February 19, 2021

  • by snail mailto PACC at Suite 330, Unit 440, 10816 Macleod Tr SE, Calgary AB T2J 5N8 or
  • by email to President_at_PACC-CCAP_dot_ca

or take the Digital ID Survey before February 26th.

All submissions received will be fully anonymized, gathered into a single document, and submitted to the Government of Ontario.

I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH HAVING DIGITAL ID.
NO WEBSITES ARE 100% PRIVATE AND SECURE. WE SEE THIS ALL THE TIME.
WE HAVE EXAMPLES WITH THE CANADA REVENUE SITE RECENTLY AND BANKS etc. etc.
NO WAY! THIS HAS GONE TOO FAR. WE DON’T HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING ON LINE.

I STRONGLY DO NOT AGREE WITH DIGITAL ID.
THIS IS TAKING EVERYTHING TOO FAR.
IT IS LIKE PUTTING OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION ON A BILLBOARD OUT TO THE WORLD!
NO WEBSITES ARE 100% SECURE. TAKE A LOOK AT EXAMPLES IN THE PAST i.e. Canada Revenue, Banks etc.
    FORGET IT!
