Consultation: TBS Directive on Automated Decision-Making

21/Nov/2024

The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat has invited feedback on its proposal to amend the Directive on Automated Decision-Making.

To provide better programs and services for its clients, the federal government sometimes uses artificial intelligence to support sound decision making. When this involves service decisions that impact people’s legal rights, interests, or privileges, requirements from the Directive on Automated Decision-Making (Directive) apply.

The Directive sets rules for federal institutions to help ensure transparency, accountability and fairness in the use of automated systems which make or support administrative decisions. TBS is required to review the Directive every two years to make sure that it remains relevant.

The 4th review of the Directive and its supporting Algorithmic Impact Assessment tool began this summer. TBS is now consulting with partners and stakeholders on the proposed changes and would like your input.

How to participate:

1. Review the materials at https://wiki.gccollab.ca/Consultations_on_the_4th_Review

2. Complete the survey available at https://forms-formulaires.alpha.canada.ca/en/id/cm38x82w000bg2slbizlt9q2q

3. PACC Members — Attend the virtual engagement session with TBS on December 4, 2024. during which the 4th review will be discussed. Details at https://pacc-ccap.ca/events/virtual-engagement-session-with-tbs/
